6 More Days and an Ocean Freebie!

It's  hard to believe that this school year has come to an end. In 6 days my little darlings will be 2nd graders! It has been a fun and exciting year and as the saying goes, "All good things must come to an end."

 To end our year we have been studying the ocean/beach. One of our favorite books has been Big Al and Shrimpy. Here is  some activities we did with this story. First we went over some vocabulary words from the story. Next we read the story, and then we played a game called Line Them Up. Here are the directions for the game:  Review the vocabulary and read the story so it is stale text. The next day- give each child a copy of the vocabulary cards ( you can pair students to reduce copying). Tell the children that you are going to read the story again,when they hear a vocabulary they will line the words up in the order that they hear them. After you have read the story and the vocabulary cards are lined up, call on a child to read the order of his/her words.  Here are some variations: call out the definitions and use in a sentence,but leave the word out.
