Bugs, Bugs, Bugs, Yuck!!! I love doing units on theses little creatures, but as far as having them in my classroom-- NO, NO, NO!!!
The teacher that I collaborate with thinks differently. She talked me into letting her bring in different kinds of bugs for the kids to observe. It's a good thing I love her so much!!! So what did she do? She brought in different bug catcher containers with different bugs in them. Where did she put them? On the kids tables!! Oh my, I am just waiting for a disaster to happen.
We have crickets, centipedes, meal worms (just waiting to come in and find little beetles all over my room :), and a spider( I know it's not an insect- but the kids are loving watching and waiting for her to spin her web. A Walking Stick will be joining us in the morning, as well as a caterpillar.
I just wish I would have taken pictures today, the looks on my kids faces were priceless. Though this has not been the highlight of my bug unit, I will have to say that the sacrifice has been worth the learning that my little ones are getting. They are so into this unit. I have used
Deanna Jumps insect unit- it is fantastic!
Here is a graphic organizer that we did today, comparing and contrasting the butterfly and a ladybug. Click the picture to download the graphic organizer.
Tomorrow we are going to get pollen from flowers like a butterfly- I hope to have pictures to post. Hope everyone is having a great week.
